Who are the brains behind Dirty Spokes? We are mountain bike enthusiasts like the rest of you. This event was designed for mountain bikers to have fun, be competitive and provide an endless supply of great memories! No matter the level (beginner to expert) it is there for you. We are not trying to re–invent the wheel just trying to perfect the roll. Dirty Spokes Productions, LLC is excited to present our 6 and 3 hour mountain bike team relay race to you. We are glad you are interested in the race and hope to see you there!
The 2016 course has been finalized! It´s fast, fun and probably flows the best of any course we have had an opportunity to put together (check out the race course preview video)! The idea behind the layout of this course is to hopefully get the individual and team times inside an hour (hopefully putting some strategy together for some of those teams to get that 3rd lap in the 3 hour race! Likewise in the 6 hour race try to get that 6th lap and provide some opportunities to potentially getting a 7th lap if possible)!
We will start the race on the street… you will be on the road for .2 miles (on the asphalt) then we will tap into the trail right at the mountain bike parking lot (Entrance "A")…
Giant thanks to the Yargo Area Bike Association (YABA) for the time and energy they have put into maintaining these trails! If you haven't ridden there ⁄ you´re gonna love it! If you have ridden there you know what we mean! A portion of your race day proceeds will be donated back to the YABA Crew!

DISQUALIFIED: Person ⁄ team who doesn’t follow rules.
WINNER: Person ⁄ team standing on the podium at the end of the race. 6/3 hour race team with most laps at the end of 6/3 hours.
The 6/3 hour Mountain Bike Race will start at 9:00 a.m. Your bike should be positioned at the bike racks no later than 8:45 a.m. Bike racks will be located at the start⁄finish area.
All 6/3 hour racers will start at 9:00 a.m. with an "on bike" start. No Lemans Start.
As you approach the transition area you have one of three choices: (1) go out on another lap, (2) pass the timing chip to another rider as they go out onto the course, (3) stop. If you choose option (1)you must still show the timing chip to the recorders at the start⁄finish area and tell them you are going back out. If you choose option (2) your rider waiting to go out onto the course must check in (preferably before you get there – makes things go quicker for your team). Once the rider on the course comes through the start⁄finish area and they show the recorders the timing chip they can pass it off and you can get riding! If you choose option (3) all you need to do is show the timing chip to the recorders and you may exit the start⁄finish area. If you choose option (3) once you and/ or your team is ready to resume riding you must check back in to let the recorders know you are going back out on the course.
If your team has a mechanical out on the course you have a couple of options: (1) fix your mechanical as quickly as you can and get riding again. You don´t have to be self supportive (meaning) if another rider comes along and they have a tool, tube, knowledge, etc. you need, you may get help from them! Only penalty here is you may loose time, get riding fast to make up for it! (2) if you have a rider that has a mechanical or has a wreck or anything that hinders them from finishing a lap, they may radio in and get another rider out on the course. You may either radio in on your own to your team or you can get to a check point and have them radio in for you. EITHER WAY THE NEW RIDER ON THE COURSE MUST CHECK IN!!! Once your rider radios in and reports to CANCEL the lap it is CANCELLED. AGAIN IF YOUR RIDER RADIOS IN OR HAS SOMEONE RADIO IN FOR THEM, THE LAP THEY ARE ON IS CANCELLED!!! (We just don´t want there to be any confusion on this).
Racers may ride as many laps consecutively as they wish. Each racer must ride a minimum of 1 lap during the 3 hour period. All laps must be completed by 12:00 p.m. or they will NOT count. 3 HOUR RACE FINISHES AT 12:00 p.m.
THE 6 HOUR RACE FINISHES AT 3:00 p.m. The laps must be completed by 3:00 p.m. or they will NOT count.
The 3 hour race winners will be the ones that have tallied the most laps at the end of the 3 hours!
The 6 hour race winners will be the ones that have tallied the most laps at the end of the 6 hours!

RACE COURSE / GPS DATA:
As each of you know the Yargo Area Bike Association (YABA) has done a great job with these trails over the last year and they are gonna be fun! The course will be right at 10.40 miles per lap. Course should be very fast and flowing: Click here for GPS Data (trying to set it up so the lap times are inside an hour per lap)... Course will consist of 90% outer loop (no monster mile, horseshoe drop and bypass 3 step hill).
The trails at Fort Yargo State Park are outstanding (this course is one of our favorites)! This might be the fastest and best flowing course we have put together at Yargo! Thanks to the work the Yargo Area Bike Association has done with these trails (should see some really fast lap times). This race is very scenic and offers both tight twisty single track, double track trails, some roots, rocks and some sweet elevation change! Garmin 705 measures course at 9.71 miles; Calibrated Bicycle Computer "wheel" measures course at 10.40 miles. Please note GPS Units do not capture every twist and turn in the woods as bicycle wheel does roll every twist and turn. Race will start in entrance "A" mountain bike parking lot and will be ridden in a clockwise direction. The course is beautiful and offers something for every mountain biker truly wishing to ´ditch the city´. Nestled in the woods of suburban Atlanta lies a true gem. Once you descend into the woods, you will forget your in the city. As a matter of fact, you will come to know why we follow the creed ´Ditch the City´. We will NOT use the "horseshoe drop" or the "monster mile" for the mountain bike portion of the course.
Awards will be given out when we have enough finishers in to fill the categories. Medals and prizes will be given out to the top three finishers in each category. Cash Payout will be Sponsored By TBA!
We will have a kids race (FREE of Charge)! The kids race will be on the Turtle Creek Mountain Bike Trail (across the street from the main mountain bike parking lot and next to the tennis courts)! The course is right at .95 and very beginner friendly! Check out the kids route GPS Data! Race will start at 8:00 a.m. All parents must sign the waiver form for the kids... Race is for kids 12 and under!
